Conversations happen via chat rooms in the community. There are multiple formats of chat rooms within a community
- Announcement rooms:
- These are created at the time of community creation. The objective is to have 1 way communication from community managers to members.
- The members cannot respond back in an annoucement room.
- All members auto-follow the announcement room and they would get notifications for all the messages shared unless specifically muted.
- Chatrooms
- Chatrooms are created for the community to have conversations around particular topics
- Members get a notification when a new chatroom is created. After that unless they follow a chatroom they don't get notifications for the conversations within a chatroom.
- Members can send text, images, videos and files in a chatroom
- Community managers or Members with permission can also create secret chat room where only selected members can participate
- Poll rooms
- Poll rooms are created to gather opinions from the community.
- They can be also used to run games & quizzes.
- Event rooms
- Members with relevant permissions can also set up events within a community and get other members to RSVP on them.
- Interested members can add the event to their calendars
Following a chatroom: a member can follow a chatroom if
- They respond in a chatroom
- They are tagged in a chatroom
- It is their intro room
- It is an announcement room
Members always have an option to go and unfollow a chatroom
